16th General Assembly of ICOMOS, Quebec, 2008

At the 16th ICOMOS General Assembly in Quebec, the ICOMOS members, present at the General Assembly and delegated by their eligible National Committees to vote, will elect the officers and the ICOMOS Executive Committee for the 2008 – 2011 mandate (1 President, 1 Secretary General, 1 Treasurer General, 5 Vice Presidents and 12 Executive Committee members).

A call was posted and e-mailed to all National and International Committees, in accordance with Article 12.c. of the ICOMOS Statutes, inviting them to send proposals for candidatures, both for positions of officers and for ordinary members of the Executive Committee. Following this call, the ICOMOS International Secretariat, by 31 March 2008, received the nominations listed below (2 for President, 1 for Secretary General, 2 for Treasurer General, 6 for Vice President and 15 for the Executive Committee). All candidates to a position of officer which are not elected to one of these can automatically also stand for the Executive Committee.

In accordance with the ICOMOS Statutes, this list was forwarded, via the ICOMOS News 1/2008  posted on Friday 23 May 2008, for information to all ICOMOS members 120 days before the date of the General Assembly. In accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the General Assembly (art 54.1), the members of ICOMOS can still propose further candidates until no later than 5 p.m. on the first day of the General Assembly – 30 September, after which all candidature files will be handed over to the Candidatures Committee for verification. For information on what elements the candidature files must include, please contact the ICOMOS International Secretariat.

All candidates have been invited to address the ICOMOS membership with a short statement on their vision and ambitions for ICOMOS. These statements, as well as the candidate’s photograph and their brief curriculum vita, if the candidate provided them and only in the language versions they supplied, can be consulted on the ICOMOS web site www.icomos.org . The dossiers are provided in PDF format.

The ICOMOS elections are governed by the ICOMOS Statutes and the Rules of Procedure for the General Assembly.

The ICOMOS General Assembly, by resolution (Madrid 2002), also expressed the wish that the candidates adopt

ethical behaviour consistent with the non-governmental and professional nature of the organization.

The General Assembly also called for the establishment of transparent procedures to avoid any perception of conflict

of interest with regards to the financial assistance granted to participants at the General Assembly. Financial aid must be

administered by the International Secretariat in the context of the Victoria Falls Fund established for this purpose.

The ICOMOS International Secretariat e-mail and the ICOMOS web site was off-line for part of last week due to a serious problem (electrical explosion) experienced by the Datacenter where our server is housed. All is back on track now and we thank you for your understanding.

Prezados  Senhores

É com grande satisfação que comunicamos que o ICOMOS Brasil realizará nos próximos dias 29,30 e 31 de maio, em Foz do Iguaçu, um Fórum Técnico Internacional para discutir o tema central: “O espírito do Lugar”.

A reunião entre os presidentes dos Comitês Nacionais do ICOMOS  americanos, buscará como resultado um conjunto de propostas que revelem a realidade patrimonial americana e que proponha uma integração propriamente dita entre os comitês nacionais.

O evento conta como apoio da ITAIPU Binacional que arcará com os custos de hospedagem e alimentação dos participantes, em Foz do Iguaçu, durante o período do Fórum, bem como com o traslado. Para tanto necessitamos com a maior brevidade possível a confirmação do participante , com nome completo e horário da chegada em Foz do Iguaçu,  nome da companhia aérea, nº.    do vôo e procedência, para que se providencie o traslado do aeroporto ao hotel.
